Hairy Bob's
Skatepark
North Bay, Scarborough
Hairy Bob's is going to be a FREE outdoor Concrete Skatepark & Dirt Jump area located in Scarborough's North Bay, directly infront of the legendary Hairy Bob's Cave. It will be open June 09 (work has been underway since February).
It is a joint venture between Scarborough Borough Council & The Skate4 Scarborough Group that was formed to give the Hairybob's users a say in what THEY want from Hairy Bob's.
Meetings with Skate4Scarborough have been held regularly over the past TWO YEARS and as a result of these a contractor has been chosen and designs have been drawn up to meet the specifications of the Skate4Scarborough group.

The Site where the park is being built looking east
Scarborough has a lot of skaters and a lot riders - Skate4Scarborough came together to build a brand new fully featured, high quality skate park, to provide Scarborough with a park to make everyone else extremely jealous(and it will) - situated in stunning surroundings. The park has been designed by skaters, who know exactly what makes a good park for people of all skills. It will sit in front of Hairy Bob's cave, below the castle headland and right next to the ocean.
The park will measure approx 55 metres in length, 25 metres in width with bowls approx 8ft deep, and will features trails for skaters and riders of all abilities. We also hope to install an extra dirt jump area for riders. Best of all, the park will be absolutely FREE to use

Looking up to North Bay
Maverick were chosen pretty much unanimously due to the designs they first produced for us.

Since being chosen, Maverick have been working closely with S4S in order to find out what features Hairy Bob's should have. There have been many tweaks and adjustments to the designs most of which have come from Maverick & S4S working closely together. There has been alot of work in trying to get the design for Hairybob's just right so that there is something for bikers, boarders & bladers alike, it will cater for young, old, novice & expert riders & allow for progression in your skills.

The latest designs are up in the media section of the site, so please go & have a look & feel free to comment on them - we appreciate your feedback.
Nearby in the North Bay there are numerous cafe's, all within about 5-10 mins on a board or bike.
There are also toilets quite close by, only a couple of minutes away.
We would advise you to come prepared, especially with drinks on hot days, but obviously that's entirely up to you! There is huge Tesco behind the Train Station, so if you come that way, plenty of opportunity to stock up before you catch the bus
INFO FOR PARENTS/RIDERS
The park is in a very visible area, near marine drive, although there is a significant distant between it and the edge of the road (including parked cars), so shouldnt pose any concern.
The park is lit and CCTV monitored, linked directly to the town hall. It is open constantly, so it's at your own discretion if you want to supervise your kids should they take a visit. Because of it's location, there will be always be people about, and traffic is regular (on hot days, lots of it and generally slow moving), so in the case of emergency, there would be plenty of people around sure to help out.
It has a relatively smooth surface, but does have some substantial jumps and drops, so again, descretion is advised regarding any safety gear. The park is as safe as a skate park can be, but ultimatly, the ground is hard, so Hairy Bob's, Skate4Scarborough & Scarborough Council can't accept any responsiblity for any injury or loss at the park.
We also hope at some point to add cover to the site, to keep out the weather (although we dont want to keep out the sun). We hope also to put in a shop of sorts, and some lockers, so you can put your stuff somewhere safe
Obviously the park is next to the sea, and conditions
can change. It can get a bit wet and a bit cold, so we would advise you bring something waterproof, just to be safe. You can park right next to the park (cheap parking tickets) and the buses are very regular, should it turn nasty.
Phone signal is generally useable
Touch-wood the weather will be glorious.
We want the park to be fun for anyone of any skill and any age. It is for EVERYONE. A full set of rules will be posted her shortly, and on display at the park.
These will be in no way there to take anyway any enjoyment of the park, and will be solely to make sure everyone gets the experience they should. Thing's like courtesy and sharing and being niceness, that kinda stuff, and no camping in the bowl.
Most of it will be common sense to be honest
