Hairy Bob's
Skatepark
North Bay, Scarborough
Hi folks,
I know that you all must be getting sick of waiting for Hairybobs to open. Just for the record we are too but i'm afraid its really out of our control. Also you must be sick of us saying it will be open soon and then changing the date BUT now please believe us when we say that the Grand Opening Day is now set for Saturday 22nd August.
Please accept our apologies and believe us when we say that the wait WILL be worth it as Hairybobs IS one of the BEST Skateparks in the Whole Country and we've been working for this day for over three years, it's everything we hoped it would be!
Thanks for your patience
Team Hairybob.

Also for those of you unaware there is Operational CCTV down on the site that is 24hrs so you will be seen whenever you go on it.

Hey everybody, sorry for the lack of recent updates we have all been really busy recently and just haven't had the time to do any.
Anyway, to Hairybobs. As some of you may have noticed, in recent weeks, there doesn't seem to have been much going on down at the site. On the face of it you would be right but behind the scenes/out of sight there has been plenty going on. Due to some (more) unexpected concrete piles one of the drainage ditches was a much more substantial job than first expected and therefore has taken much more time to complete. Also some levels on the actual park have had to be amended to ensure that the balance of good drainage/ride-ability is spot on rather than just adequate and in turn has again taken longer than expected.
On the upside of this, the metal work boys have turned up on site with their lovely shiny coping & rails and have begun to get stuck in on setting out all of the metalwork in the bowl area. They will be here for the next few weeks working from the bowl into the street area with the concreting team following them along. The concreting team are due to arrive within the next two weeks and when they do this is when you will start to see a massive difference in the park.
So by reading this you probably realise that the completion date of the park has been put back by a while. The new date for the opening of the park and now for the Grand Opening Event is 15th August. We realise that this seems to be ages away but just think how long you have been waiting for a decent park in Scarborough (some of you since the Mere Park shut down in the 70's!!!) so really a few weeks is nothing and we promise it will definitely definitely be worth the wait.
Thank you for being patient.
Team Hairybob.

So then folks a bit of an update on where we are up to with Hairybobs.
Maverick are getting on pretty well with the construction and are roughly on schedule with a few things behind but a few ahead too.
There were some complications on a bit of the foundation work as some concrete piles were unexpectantly found & had to be removed before work could continue. They now have the basic structure of the park in place and alot of the levels are to the right height & most of the retaining walls have been built. Check out our pictures section to see their progress. Also remember to SPREAD the WORD of Hairybobs to everyone you know, the more people that know the better!!
Remember to add us if your on MySpace too. www.myspace.com/skatescarborough
Also looking good are the Dirt Jumps, Phil Charnley is on site building them with his team and after a few teething problems is well on the way. A problem with drainage & lighting has meant that the Dirt Jumps have to 'flow' the opposite way to originally planned & this has meant jigging the design slightly so that they fit better.
As soon as they had this sorted they have got straight to it and with no messing around the Dirt Jumps are starting to look well Sweet.
Keep a look out for some photo's of the Dirt Jumps Very soon!
Also please remember to keep checking back at our photo section for all the latest pics of the whole park.
Cheers,
Team Hairybob.

So we now have the full site online in anticipation of the park's launch. There a few loose ends to tie up, so if you notice any massive problems please let us know We had to get a new forum, somewhere left ours somewhere and it got stolen, so the new one will be ready to use in the next few days (you can actually join - just not post yet). Unfortunately those who signed up before will have to do so again, we didn't get to keep any of the accounts. Anyways, we hope you like the new site, the park will be ready real soon

In the past week we have held discussions about what we're going to do for the GRAND OPENING of Hairy Bob's and we have come up with a few pretty good ideas. At the moment we can't reveal whats in the pipeline but what we can tell you is that the magical grand opening date is set for Saturday 20th June 2009! The park should be open before this to actually skate & ride but the 20th is the 'Official' opening date.
Keep a lookout in the next week for more info on the opening and for some lovely new pics of how Hairybobs is progressing. As some of you may already know (by going to have a look) the first block work for Hairybobs has been laid. Essentially these blocks are the foundations for the park and the big piles of rubble are actually an integral part of the foundations too. If you keep in mind the shape of the plans, then go down to the site you can really start to get a picture of the layout and get a feel for the real size of Hairy Bob's. What else can we say apart from WE ARE SO PLEASED WE HAVE ALL SIMULTANEOUSLY WET OURSELVES!!! Bring on Hairy Bob's wwwhhhhhoooooooooooooooo!!!!!!

The article that graced the Evening News on 23/02/09 not a bad write up at all. Just click on picture for a larger version. Also go and check out the latest construction pictures. Your comments are always welcome.
Thank you to everyone who came down to the photo shoot for the evening news despite the rain. We think that it will be in the paper sometime this week so keep a lookout for lewis posing on the Haiybobs skateboard. I'm sure you'll agree he looks well 'cool'!!! Pictures will be posted soon. Keep a look out.

Ok folks so if you've been keeping up to speed, Monday 16th Feb was the day that the Maverick team showed up on site with all of their lovely equipiment to start the building of the bloody fantastic HAIRY BOB'S Skatepark. Check out the photos of Hairy Bob's day one in our media section! Today shall go down in history, COME ON!!!!!!!!
Thanks to everyone who came along to the meeting on the 12th despite the snowy weather. We concluded that while Haiybob's is being built it would be a good idea to run trips to other skateparks.

As some of you may have noticed the existing Metal Skatepark in the North Bay has been removed (as of 21/01/09), we realise that this is an inconvenience for the moment but please bear with it as the wait without a Skatepark WILL be worth it!!!!!!
